CESTA CON BASE HEXAGONAL DE TIRA DE CASTAÑO

Hace unos día pude asistir a un curso con Carlos Fontales para realizar una cesta originaria de Japón. El tejido que utilizamos para la base fue hexagonal y para los bordes el tejido de lazo. La realizamos con tiras de castaño.

BASKET WITH HEXAGONAL BASE OF CHESTNUT STRIP

A few days ago I was able to attend a course with Carlos Fontales to make a basket from Japan. The fabric we used for the base was hexagonal and for the edges the ribbon fabric. We made it with chestnut strips. 

Los cortes para la obtención del material se realizan cuando el árbol tiene entre 5 y 7 años, y se utiliza el tronco hasta la altura en que comienzan las ramas. Se obtienen finas láminas mediante cortes longiudinales que se comercializan con diferentes anchos. Para utulizarlos en trabajos de cestería se humedecieron las tiras un día antes y se envolvieron con plástico para mantener la humedad.

The cuts to obtain the material are made when the tree is between 5 and 7 years old, and the trunk is used up to the height at which the branches begin. Thin slices are obtained by means of longiudinal cuts that are commercialized with different widths. To use them in basketry work, the strips were moistened one day before and wrapped in plastic to maintain humidity. 

Comenzamos a trabajar por la base utilizandocon 30 tiras de castaño formando hexágonos y posteriormente con las mismas tiras fuimos haciendo grupos de a 3 para realizar los lazos del borde. 

We began to work on the base using 30 chestnut strips forming hexagons and later with the same strips we were making groups of 3 to make the edge ties.
