La marca PIÑATEX realiza textiles, de aspecto similar al cuero, a partir de las fibras que extraen de las hojas de la planta de la piña. El origen de estas fibras está en Filipinas y allí las hojas se desacartaban en la cosecha de la piña.

The PIÑATEX brand makes textiles, similar in appearance to leather, from fibres extracted from the leaves of the pineapple plant. The origin of these fibres is in the Philippines, where the leaves are removed during the pineapple harvest.
Una vez cosechada se eliminan las caras externas de la hoja para alcanzar la fibra del interior. Las fibras son finos hilos longitudinales que deben lavarse y secarse antes del proceso industrial. Las fibras forman un tejido no tejido, es una malla sin orden establecido formando rollos y así se traslada a España e Italia para transformación en textil donde recibe un acabado con pigmentos si se busca color y resina para darle resistencia.
Once harvested, the outer sides of the leaf are removed to reach the fibre inside. The fibres are fine longitudinal threads that must be washed and dried before industrial processing. The fibres form a non-woven fabric, it is a mesh without an established order forming rolls and so it is transferred to Spain and Italy for transformation into textiles where it receives a finish with pigments if colour and resin are sought to give it strength.
