Las fibras que se obtienen del tallo de la planta de loto se trabajan cuidadosamente para la realización de productos textiles. son fibras muy caras debido a la dificultad de su obtención y del trabajo delicado que se debe llevar a cabo para obtener hilaturas.
Se pueden encontrar en Vietnam y en Myanmar donde se trabajan tradicionalmente. El corte de los tallos sólo se puede realizar desde abril a octubre y una vez realizado la selección de los tallos se extrae la seda interior. Son fibras muy finas y pegajosas y se obtiene muy poca cantidad de cada tallo. Se enroollan formando hilos y se dejan secar. Este proceso se debe hacer en las primeras 24 h porque al secarse la fibra no resiste el hilado y se rompe. Esto obliga a realizar la cosecha cada día.
