PALMA BLANCA

La palma blanca es una técnica utilizada en España que se pasa de generación en generación ligada a la Semana Santa Cristiana. Tiene como objetivo conseguir que las hojas de palma adquieran un color blanco para confeccionar posteriormente productos artesanales conocidos como "palmas rizadas".

WITHE PALM

The white palm is a technique used in Spain that is passed from generation to generation linked to Christian Holy Week. The aim is to make the palm leaves white so that they can then be used to make handcrafted products known as'curly palms'.

 El proceso se puede dividir en 7 pasos / The process can be divided into 7 steps:

1. El atado: mediante cuerdas naturales (actualmente se utilizan también cuesdas plásticas industriales) se atan las hojas de las palmeras, esta actividad se realiza desde diciembre hasta junio. 

1. Tying: the leaves of the palm trees are tied with natural ropes (currently also used industrial plastic ropes), this activity is carried out from December to June.  

2. Encaperuzado: Las hojas atadas se cubre con una plástico abierto o palmas impidiendo el paso de la luz que hará que las hojas no adquieran color verde. Se realiza desde el el Domingo de Ramos hasta agosto.

2. "Encaperuzado": The tied leaves are covered with an open plastic or palms preventing the passage of light that will make the leaves not turn green. It is held from Palm Sunday to August.

3. Recolección: Desde septiembre hasta el Domingo de Ramos se realiza la recolección de palma blanca, dejando hojas de palma para que la planta no se dañe.

 3. Compilation: From September until Palm Sunday the white palm is gathered, leaving leaves of palm so that the plant is not damaged.

4. Limpieza: Las hojas de palma blanca se clasifican, se limpian con cepillos y se sumergen en balsas.

4. Cleaning: The white palm leaves are sorted, cleaned with brushes and immersed in rafts.

5. Clasificación: Se clasifican por longitudes y por color. Las mas largas pueden alcanzar los 3,6 m. 

5. Sorting: They are sorted by length and color. The longest ones can reach 3.6 m. 

6. Tratamiento: Las palmas blancas clasificadas reciben un tratamiento de azufre en cámaras para su conservación.
6. Treatment: The classified white palms receive a sulphur treatment in chambers for their conservation. 

7. Elaboración de artesanías: Las mujeres principalmente realizan los trabajos artesanales. Es una actividad familiar que pasa de generación en generación.
7. Elaboration of handicrafts: The women mainly carry out the handmade works. It is a family activity that is passed down from generation to generation.
